LeithLate, Leith’s annual multi-arts event is BACK, returning to a variety of different venues up and down Leith Walk on the evening of Thursday 28th June, and now it’s even bigger, better and LATER than before! Now extending to a three-hour event running between 6-9pm,
and taking on an extra seven venues on top of last year, bringing the quota to a whopping sixteen, plus a new afterparty venue with another great line-up of some of the most exciting emerging talent, this year’s LeithLate is set to blow your socks off!
LeithLate is essentially one huge art opening, with numerous free exhibitions and events taking place across a plethora of Leith venues in the space of just one night, many of which are opening their doors later than usual in order to take part. The event is directly proceeded by an afterparty at Henderson Halls, with Scottish Album of the Year-shortlisted Remember Remember headlining the bill. Media Partners The Skinny will be printing a LeithLate route map reflecting all participating venues, designed by artist David Lemm (www.davidlemm.co.uk), plus a preview of the event in the June edition of the magazine.

• Whitespace Gallery, 11 Gayfield Square. Whitespace is a new gallery on the site of the former Doggerfisher, that provides a space for various classes and exhibitions organised by artist Leigh Chorlton. Kevin Harman will be showcasing some of his latest work at Whitespace for LeithLate. www.whitespace11.com
• Superclub, 11a Gayfield Square. Superclub is a funky artist-run collective whose headquarters at 11a Gayfield Square are home to Superclub studios, gallery and shop. As part of LeithLate Superclub will be opening its studios to the public for the first time. LeithLate also marks the last chance to see the Superclub exhibition Unimaginable Wealth: Part 2 by the Creative Services of Hugo de Verteuil and Ian Rothwell. www.superclubstudios.com
• Windsor Buffet, 45 Elm Row. Situated at the top of Leith Walk, the Windsor Buffet has a traditional Scottish pub atmosphere, making it a welcome addition to Leith Walk’s ever expanding list of good boozeries. The Windsor will be having a live music showcase at LeithLate, including local band Boy Up A Tree.
• The Old Ambulance Depot, 77 Brunswick Street. The Old Ambulance Depot is a unique space owned by Newhaven Advertising Agency that regularly hosts exhibitions and events. For LeithLate, the Depot presents The Making of It, an international exhibition of work by Joseph Calleja, Martin Campbell, Irfan Donmez, Deniz Guvensoy, Dominik Lipp, Scott McCracken, Eilidh Mcpherson, Roz McKenzie, Nikos Mantzios, Allan J. • Word of Mouth Café, 3A Albert Street. Since 2007, Word of Mouth has been serving good food at excellent prices. The café regularly hosts special events and exhibitions. For LeithLate, one-minute filmic wonders Lowdef, and spoken wordy extraordinaires Inky Fingers present an evening of film, words and cake. • Oscar’s Alterations, 371 Leith Walk. The first of our site-specific art venues at LeithLate this year is Oscar’s, with its decorative thimble display in the window that regularly stops tourists along the Walk. For LeithLate, the tailors’ will be showcasing artist Katie Orton’s latest work with clothing, associated with the Dressing for Facebook project.
• Brass Monkey Leith, 362 Leith Walk. The newly opened Brass Monkey Leith is roomy yet cosy and has a great selection of beers and ales, along with an affordable tasty menu of homemade grub. The Monkey will have an exhibition by resident artists at fellow LeithLate venue Superclub and films/visuals on the big screen, plus an acoustic set by Black Diamond Express.
• Elvis Shakespeare, 347 Leith Walk. Elvis Shakespeare are specialist dealers in rare vinyl and quality literature, and are committed to the promotion of grassroots writers and musicians. They regularly host a variety of free live performances in the shop throughout the year. For LeithLate, Elvis Shakespeare will host an exhibition of Leith-based artists, plus the showcase of a new collection by JRF Rouge Milliner, interspersed by live performances from The Last Battle, Blueflint and Edinburgh School for the Deaf. www.elvisshakespeare.com
• Rhubaba Gallery and Studios, 25 Arthur Street. Rhubaba Gallery and Studios is an artist-run organisation of off Leith Walk that provides studio space for fifteen artists and an annual programme of exhibitions and events. During LeithLate, Rhubaba will present Its Hard to Find a Good Lamp, a group show investigating the boundaries between art, furniture and interior design featuring Jennifer Bailey, Emily Fogarty, Sadie Murdoch, Method Furniture, Alex Pollard and Oliver Smith. www.rhubaba.org
• The Out of the Blue Drill Hall, 36 Dalmeny Street. Out of the Blue currently provide studio and production space for 109 artists/creative industries in 67 studios, along with a licensed café area and theatre space that regularly hosts artistic events in this converted army building. As part of LeithLate, OOTB will be presenting their latest exhibition showcasing the work of QMU Art Therapy final year graduates, whilst providing a night of Ping Pong shenanigans with special guest DJ and tasty cafe treats!www.outoftheblue.org.uk
• Leith Walk Barber’s Salon, 280 Leith Walk. The second of our site-specific venues that has been providing a general grooming service for men for years, Leith Walk Barber’s will feature an installation of male portraits by photographer Ross Fraser McLean. www.rossfrasermclean.com

• Victoria, 265 Leith Walk. Victoria was one of the first trendy bars to open on Leith Walk, and is one of the four (soon to be five) ‘mini-chain’ of Swedish bars run in Leith. • Boda, 229 Leith Walk. Boda is the original Swedish bar in Leith, with a quirky style and lovely bar staff. As well as their latest exhibition by Steven Collier on show, folk duo Julias’ Daughters and Blues n’ Two’s will be performing for your enjoyment.www.bodabar.com
• Silverhub Studios, 130/7 Leith Walk. Silverhub is a lovely open plan studio for silversmithing jewellery designers, get in by buzzing on the door and turn right at the top of the stairs. For LeithLate, Silverhub will be presenting an exhibition of work from the studios’ resident and professional jewellers alongside an acoustic performance by Proclaimers’ favourites Blueflint. www.silverhubstudios.com
• Leith Circle of Friends, 115 Leith Walk. LCOF is a welcoming and supportive community space, providing gallery and workshop opportunities to a wide range of artisans in the arts and crafts sphere. During the course of LeithLate, there will be live music from rapper Zeba and singer-songwriter Jennifer Davidson, as well as a live African music performance. www.leithcircle.co.uk
• Henderson Halls, 6 Henderson Street. Henderson Halls is home to the LeithLate afterparty, starting at 9pm and running until midnight on the evening of the event. The line-up is as follows: Zed Penguin, Mars 2030, Paul Vickers and The Leg and Remember Remember. A licensed bar will be available. • REELS ON WHEELS, various locations. A white van gallery, showing unseen video work by emerging Edinburgh artists courtesy of the AND AND collective, REELS ON WHEELS will be touring LeithLate venues. The mobile venue itself operates as an investigation into the viewers’ experience of this multi-art event. In addition, the method of display instigates a dialogue by operating in the liminal zone between gallery and public space. www.andand.org.uk
LeithLate is also proud to announce the launch of The Shutter Project, a new Leith arts initiative brought to you in collaboration with iloveleith, and launching at this year’s event on 28th June. The Shutter Project brings together local artists and Leith businesses to create a visual impact on shopfront shutters along the Walk after hours. Leith-based artist Jamie Johnson has been selected as the first artist to take part in and launch the project on the shutter of Gamesmasters Games Exchange (287-291 Leith Walk), with further artworks by different artists to be unveiled along Leith Walk in the weeks and months to follow.
